We received this incredible invitation to participate in the event “The Difficult Art of Being a Woman in the Arts,” organized by the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, has advocated for the role of women in the arts in an institutional event held on March 8th at the institution’s headquarters, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Under the slogan “The ‘Difficult’ Art of Being a Woman in the Arts,” the event featured the presence of the bookseller Lola Larumbe and representatives of the Network of Women, Artists, and Creators. Teresa Jiménez-Becerril opened the event and expressed words of recognition for women who throughout history have not been visible in the arts, who have had to struggle in a world where being an artist and a woman was doubly difficult. “We wanted to dedicate this March 8th to all the women who have made an effort throughout their lives in the art world, where they were sidelined for a long time,” she stated.
The event concluded with a performance by the musical group Jazz Trío, consisting of Astrid Canales -vocals-, Mar Sánchez -guitar-, and Mikaela Vázquez -violin-, who performed an adaptation in Spanish of the Portuguese song “Triste, Louca ou Má.”
